Diamond Head Mountain

Diamond Head Mountain is a bluegrass band based in the region of Northern Kentucky. Unlike many bluegrass bands they don’t have a set “style” of bluegrass music. Their set lists include songs from the entire spectrum of bluegrass material, including a lot of original material but, most importantly, they play and sing bluegrass with a passion for the music.
Diamond Head Mountain was formed in 2003 by Gene Dobbs, Ralph Martin and Larry Baker. Larry has since left the band, but was an important part of it in the early years. These three had played and sung together for a time, but the DHM name didn’t come until 2003 at the Festival of the Bluegrass in Georgetown, Kentucky. Gene, Ralph, Larry joined by two other friends were getting ready to play the open stage portion of the show when the emcee asked the name of the band. The three of them were wearing Hawaiian “flowerdy” shirts at the time, so they said, “We’re the Diamond Head Mountain Boys!” (in reference to the iconic mountain on the big island). They’ve since dropped the “Boys” – too much gray hair in the band, but the DHM has stuck, and so have the shirts!
Diamond Head Mountain has a genuine love for bluegrass music and plays it with great feeling, drive, and enthusiasm every time they perform. The band has played just about every imaginable venue, from backyard parties to large festivals and everything in-between. Give them half a reason and they’ll play! The current members of the band are great friends and their camaraderie and passion for the music shows in every performance.
